Sun, sand and sea – what could be more romantic than a destination wedding? Both weddings and holidays are events to look forward to, so combining them is sure to up the ante.
If you’re lucky enough to be jet setting off to see a friend or family member get married, you may be wondering what to pack. Before you get started, make a list of everything you need so you don’t go overboard with items then follow our five tips to make sure this trip gets off to the best start possible.
1) Don’t overlook the small things
With all the excitement that comes with packing for a holiday, it’s easy to go all in planning outfits and forget the basics. Items like sunscreen and sunglasses are particularly important when travelling to a hot country, making sure you don’t have any bright red noses in the wedding snaps. Sunglasses are stylish and functional, making them a must-have accessory for any holiday. Trendy Ray Ban sunglasses will upgrade every casual outfit, adding extra flair while protecting your eyes from sun damage. Whether you opt for wayfarers or aviators, Ray Ban are known for being a top choice for summer holidays due to their distinguishable appearance and practicality.
A travel steamer is also a great tool to pack in your case. You can then use this to remove any crumples in dresses or suits on the day of wedding – no one will know they were ever stuffed in a suitcase!
2) Have a mini capsule wardrobe
Rather than packing tons of clothes for the week – or however long you’re going for – bring along basics. Known as a capsule wardrobe, there’s a focus on minimalism rather than choosing pieces that only pair with one other thing, for example. Items like white t shirts can be worn with a myriad of different options, such as breezy beige culottes and maxi skirts. Items must be versatile, basic and of high quality, rather than choosing fast-fashion pieces that don’t pair well with most of your wardrobe.
You can follow the rule of three, which is where you think of three different outfits based on that one piece and others you’re considering packing. If you aren’t going for long, then you can lower this number to two. While you can obviously step outside of this rule when choosing the wedding day outfit itself, packing basics is a great way to keep your packing from getting out of control.
3) Consider gifting vouchers or money
A gift is customary when it comes to weddings, although you don’t need to blow the bank if you’ve paid for your own flights and accommodation. Rather than bringing along a bulky gift that will take up a lot of space in your bag, choose vouchers, gift cards or even just money instead. Many couples prefer this as it’s easy for them to take back and they can spend it on whatever they wish, although you could always give them the gift before or after you jet off if you prefer.
4) Appropriate footwear
As nice as it is to wear your most impressive heels to a wedding, it simply isn’t practical if it’s on a beach. You’ll find yourself stumbling around, falling or just being uncomfortable. Choose a pair of flats that are formal and functional; destination wedding wear is usually more casual than your standard ceremony, but do make sure they fit in with the general theme. Trainers are likely too far on a casual side whereas flats offer the same comfort but are more upmarket.
5) Free up space with vacuum bags
If you’re going for a couple of weeks and can’t seem to fit everything in your suitcase, vacuum bags are ideal. They’ll free up plenty of space without you actually having to downsize or limit the amount you bring. Ensure you get ones specifically designed for suitcases or at least measure it out so you are confident the vacuum bag will fit once the air is suctioned out. You may have to iron out a few wrinkles once you arrive, but vacuum bags are essential for those who want to bring a lot of stuff.
However long you’re going for, packing the essentials will help you have a stress free holiday. You won’t need to head into the nearby town of the holiday destination or pick up bits at the airport, but rather sit back and enjoy the break.
