Georgia & Mike – Cape Point Vineyards Wedding
The sky is the limit (quite literally) when it comes to choosing a wedding venue in New York. From scenic rooftops to iconic hotels, you’re sure to find an idyllic setting. But when Georgia and Mike began planning their big day, only one place stood out: The Western Cape. While this couple calls The Big Apple home, their strong family ties to South Africa drew them to the Cape for the wedding celebration of the year, which was planned to perfection by Event Affairs.
From: USA / South Africa
Nearest Airport: Cape Town
Number of Guests: 180
From Event Affairs:
We’re not sure if you’ve been to Cape Point Vineyards, but it really is magnificent. You feel as though you’re on top of the world, as you take in a 180-degree view of the ocean.
Georgia and Mike’s ceremony took place on the lawn, overlooking the breathtaking view. It was short-and-sweet at the couple’s request. They wanted a comfortable, relaxed and non-conventional ceremony.
To set the mood of the day, a traditional African choir began singing as they walked down the aisle before the bride. Georgia then followed with her father by her side. The relaxed and sentimental atmosphere could be felt by all, while a couple of tears were shed by the mums.
Pre-dinner drinks were held on the patio and in the tented area next to the reception venue. The Zumanani Brothers Choir kept guests entertained, before the DJ introduced some chilled lounge background music, whilst bespoke cocktail barmen prepared incredible local gin cocktails.
The reception was unique and unlike anything we’ve done before. Besides the gorgeous Jamie Dornan, from Fifty Shades of Grey fame, attending as one of the groomsmen, the décor concept was nothing short of breathtaking.
Georgia had her heart set on creating an enchanted forest inside the venue, so with this in mind we set out to do just that! We called on one of our favourite décor stylists, Opus Studio, to create this organic theme. What was produced was out of this world!
Custom-made mopani trees were placed atop each table, with an array of moss and candles to cover the surface of the tables below the tree. Each table looked like a soft bed of an enchanted forest.
We brought in beautiful big trees to create a rooftop canopy and dressed each tree with lanterns and fairy lights to create a beautiful soft and warm glow inside the venue. The main table was placed underneath a forest-like canopy of foliage, beautiful mopani, greenery and orchids. The venue was lush, green and glowed with soft yellow mood lighting to create a truly romantic forest-like atmosphere, like something out of a fairy tale.
When it came time to open the dancefloor, we queued the big wow factor of the night, which was a surprise to the guests. All of a sudden (when the guests were least expecting it and just after the groom’s great speech) a vibrant African Zulu dance group came bursting through the doors after speeches. It really got things going! The high energy performance was infectious and entertaining and even the guests joined in. The DJ then opened the dancefloor and guests danced the night away.
It was an absolutely perfect summer evening in December. And our guests, many of whom had never been to SA, were able to indulge in a truly African experience with a touch of Event Affairs flare! The entire event from start to finish was relaxed and festive – exactly what the bridal couple wanted.
Congrats Georgia and Mike!
