Just a 2.5-hour flight from the UK and Ireland, Croatia is a hidden gem in the Adriatic, offering a blend of natural beauty, rich history, and stunning architecture, making it a top choice for destination weddings. 1) Dubrovnik – The Adriatic Jewel

Without a doubt, Croatia’s most popular destination for weddings and tourists alike is Dubrovnik, so I place it at the top of the list. Not much needs to be said about Dubrovnik as its beauty speaks for itself. The old town’s architecture and history leaves you breathless. For couples seeking a true historical feeling of the Mediterranean, this jewel really is the place to go.

Did You Know

Dubrovnik is the city portrayed as “King’s Landing”, the capital in the TV series “Game of Thrones” and scenes for the casino city of Canto Bight in Star Wars Episode VIII were shot within the old town.

But there are so many places just as beautiful which I want to share with you…and if you would like to head off the beaten track…here are my other selections for the best wedding locations in Croatia.

Poreč, with its Roman heritage and Adriatic allure, offers 19th century venues by the sea and Just 10 km inland, rustic villas provide an idyllic setting for outdoor weddings.

What I Love

The beautiful waterfront promenades and old architecture of Poreč make it one of my favourite wedding locations in Croatia.

One of the lesser known yet still exclusive destinations, the island of Vis is full of untouched nature and offers a unique experience to each couple and their guests.

What I Love

Vis is notable for Fort George, an old military fort that has been transformed into an absolutely stunning location for organising events like weddings and private parties.

What I Love

Along with a quiet and romantic experience at some of the finest restaurants along the Adriatic, Hvar also offers a great party scene and excellent adventure sport opportunities like rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking etc. With all of this combined Hvar has to make my lists as one of the best wedding locations in Croatia.

Once just a transit port nestled at the feet of the Marjan hills, Split has become a destination for exclusive holidays and has finally experienced the transformation it deserves. Its Diocletian’s Palace and coastal charm, provides diverse wedding venues, from historic sites to luxurious resorts.

Did You Know

Split is the second largest city in Croatia, a jewel of the Adriatic coast with a historical old town center where you will still find buildings and palaces from ancient Roman times.

What Makes This My Hot Pick

Split is the jump off point for many of the better known islands, and moving around Croatia, you will probably find yourself there. This unique place not only provides beautiful locations for photos but also has a large range of restaurants and wedding venues and is definitely worth considering as one of your possible wedding locations in Croatia.

What I Love

Sensational location for engagement shoots or general location photography.

Good to Know

How to Choose the Best Wedding Location in Croatia

With so many incredible options, choosing the best wedding location in Croatia can feel overwhelming. Here are a few tips to help you decide which destination suits your dream wedding best:

Define Your Wedding Style

Are you dreaming of a romantic beach ceremony, a historic castle wedding, or an intimate celebration in nature?

  • For luxury and glamour, consider Dubrovnik or Hvar.
  • For beach and sunset, Havar, Dubrovnik or Rovinj deliver.
  • If your after historic elegance you cant go past Split, Dubrovnik or Poreč.
  • For nature lovers, Plitvice Lakes or Gorski Kotar offer unbeatable natural settings.
  • If you’re after authentic local charm and fewer crowds, try Rovinj or Vis.

Consider Your Guest List

Some locations are easier for guests to reach than others:

  • Dubrovnik, Split, and Zagreb have international airports and plenty of accommodation.
  • Islands like Vis and Hvar may require more coordination but offer a unique experience.

Budget Considerations

Croatia offers options for various budgets:

  • Cities like Zagreb or smaller inland towns often provide more affordable venues.
  • Islands and UNESCO heritage cities typically command premium prices.

Think About the Season

  • May, June, and September are popular for weddings — great weather but fewer tourists.
  • July and August are peak season — expect higher costs and hotter temperatures.
  • Off-season weddings (October–April) can be magical and more cost-effective, especially in cities like Zagreb or Split.

Legal vs. Symbolic Ceremonies

  • A legal ceremony in Croatia requires paperwork and advance planning.
  • Many couples choose to legally marry at home, then have a symbolic ceremony in Croatia, it’s simpler and allows more flexibility with the venue and timeline.

Work with Local Experts

Hiring a Croatian wedding planner is invaluable. They understand local laws, vendor relationships, and can help you navigate language barriers and logistics. Ask planners for location suggestions based on your vision and guest count,  they often know hidden gems not listed online.
