What is the difference between a wedding planner, a venue coordinator, and a day of planner?
This is a very relevant question and it is very important that the client truly understands the differences.
A wedding planner, first and foremost works for you. There are no conflicts of interest. A wedding planner works for months on planning and designing your wedding to make sure it is everything you dreamed of and more. A wedding planner is always available to you during the entire planning process imparting professional advice, providing supplier and venue suggestions, negotiating discounts and extra services, and sharing years of experience to achieve what you envision for your day.
A venue coordinator works for the venue and is responsible for the operations at the venue. The venue offering is often limited and guided by what the venue is most comfortable executing. Organizing all the other aspects of the wedding beyond the venue and finding the best suppliers at fair prices for you fall outside the purview of a venue coordinator.
A day of planner’s role is to keep all the service providers running on schedule and handle issues that arise. With the myriad of service options available to the couples today, every event tends to be customized and a reflection of the couple’s personalities. Without having been part of the long, detailed planning process and with a working knowledge of the service providers, a day of planner’s effectiveness can be very limited.
