Summer Dream in Portovenere.
Hannah and Jeremy’s wedding had all the elements needed to make a celebration fabulous… a bright summer day, a wonderful young couple and one of the most beautiful, colourful and romantic sea-towns of Italy, Portovenere. The Location
The picture postcard fishing village and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Portovenere, is located on a rocky peninsula of the Ligurian coast in Italy. The brightly coloured houses line the harbour while the narrow medieval streets wind their way up to the ancient Doria Castle (12th – 16th centuries), which dominates the landscape sitting proudly overlooking the famous St Peter’s Church and village below.
Civil Ceremony
This spectacular setting was where Hannah and Jeremy pronounced the most important “I do” of their lives. Under a bright Italian sun, with an incredible sea-view; they had their civil ceremony on the terrace of Doria Castle, which is set on the highest point of the Town and accessible only on foot.
The setting of their ceremony was simply magical, thanks to its unique location and splendid view of the magical Gulf of Poets, added to this the bright white of the guests’ umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun and the deep blue of sky, making their wedding as beautiful as a dream!
A Unique Journey
Following Hannah and Jeremy’s ceremony, the guests made their way down to the little port where they stopped for a drink before boarding a ferry for the short trip to the enchanting Palmaria Island. This little island, noteworthy for its natural beauty was a blaze of colour, the blue of the sea combined with the green of the wild Mediterranean vegetation made the most stunning backdrop.
The island is home to Fortezza Umberto l, the “Fortress of the Sea”. Built in the last century and used as a prison until the 50s, it has undergone major restoration work and now hosts important cultural events, thematic exhibitions and conferences. This impressive Fortress was the exclusive location of Hannah and Jeremy’s wedding reception.
Cocktails and Dinner
On arrival the guests were welcomed with a cocktail in front of the Fortres’s walls. This was followed by an elegant dinner served on the terrace with a sensational view of the bay below, after which everyone danced the night away under the moonlight to the fabulous live music by the Ranieri Sessa Band!
This fantastically unique wedding was rounded off by an evening ferry trip back to Portovenere, the guests and the newly married couple were treated to a breath taking view of this magic fishing village by night, a perfect end to a perfect day!
