Why a Destination Wedding in Tuscany
For a destination wedding, Tuscany is one of the most popular locations in Italy and for very good reason….
It offers a vast array of stunning locations, magnificent wedding venues and some of Italy’s finest wedding planners operate in this region.
Tuscany sits amongst rolling hills where vineyards and olive groves are dotted with farmhouses and villas, all interspersed with medieval towns and cities full of Renaissance art and artefacts. It’s widely regarded as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, and has been home to some of the most influential artists in history, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, Petrarch, Dante, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Amerigo Vespucci and Puccini.
Tuscany has a unique culinary tradition (ribollita, bistecca alla fiorentina, pappa al pomodoro, cantuccini and vin santo), and is very famous for its wine (Chianti, Chianti Classico and Brunello di Montalcino).
Only in Tuscany can you find six World Heritage Sites within a few kilometres: The historical centre of Florence, the historical centre of San Gimignano, the historical centre of Siena, the Val d’Orcia, the square of the Cathedral of Pisa with the famous Leaning Tower and the historical centre of Pienza.
Tuscany offers Castles in the Chianti and fascinating villas in the hills of Siena which are surrounded by peace and quiet and country sounds. There are also the flowers, trees and the wonderful fresh country air that Tuscany and Chianti are famed for.
Real Experiences
With so much to offer, it’s easy to see why Tuscany is such a popular region of Italy for a wedding abroad … for Reshma and Christopher from London their ongoing love affair with Tuscany made it a natural choice for their wedding…they were married in Castello Di Gabbiano which is nestled in hills of the Chianti wine region.
They were confident Tuscany would be a very well received choice of destination and their guests were treated to a spectacular backdrop of rolling hills, beautiful wine, gorgeous food … and a weekend of relaxed celebrations under the Tuscan sun.
Reshma and Christopher’s destination wedding in Tuscany exceeded all their expectations and they would wholeheartedly recommend this region to other couples thinking of getting married in Italy.
And Reshma’s top tip for getting married in Tuscany is to find a fantastic Wedding Planner…and this is something I wholeheartedly agree with!
Not only can a wedding planner help you navigate your way around the legal procedures for getting married in Italy, which can be quite complicated… but they are also privy to some of Tuscany’s best locations, wedding venues and suppliers.
Best Locations
Tuscany offers many different settings for a wedding: cities of art, the countryside, the seaside and small villages.
One of the most famous Tuscan areas is Chianti.
Chianti is a beautiful area between Florence and Siena with four pretty villages: Greve, Gaiole, Radda and Castellina. Chianti is famous for its delicious wine…Chianti Classico, being the symbol of Tuscany.
Infinity Weddings & Events suggest the Chianti region for couples who wish to enjoy beautiful landscapes, rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves and wine tasting! Chianti has many beautiful castles, grand villas and farmhouses with a rustic atmosphere which make ideal venues for a wedding.
Tuscany also has some elegant and luxurious villas in Lucca where the aristocratic charm will capture you and make your wedding an unforgettable experience.
Lucca is the perfect town for couples who would love their guests to experience the beauty of a medieval walled town, whilst being surrounded by the relaxing atmosphere of the countryside. Here your guests can stay in the centre of Lucca or be accommodated in one of the marvellous properties close to the Town.
Villas in Lucca have been the set of famous movies and maybe you can live that atmosphere like royalty!
Hidden Gems
If you would love to discover a special location for your destination wedding in Tuscany, as a first step browse the Wedding Venues in Tuscany listed in our directory. There you will find numerous hidden gems, from elegant villas with onsite accommodation which can be booked for exclusive use, to country houses with in-house catering and wedding planning assistance. Set on hilltops in the beautiful Tuscan countryside or surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, each is perfect for a unique wedding weekend in Italy, with breathtaking views and that enchanting atmosphere only Italy can offer!
Wedding Ceremonies
The most beautiful towns for Civil Ceremonies are Florence, Siena, San Miniato and San Gimignano.
If you prefer a more intimate atmosphere Infinity Weddings & Events recommend the small towns like San Gimignano, Certaldo, San Miniato or Castellina in Chianti, where the ceremony room is beautiful and well organised.
Florence and Siena are unique but (especially on the weekend) there are lots ceremonies taking place.
If you have already booked a villa or castle in Chianti, a civil ceremony in the beautiful medieval Tower of Castellina in Chianti is highly recommended. The room is quite small but the atmosphere of the steep stairs is unique.
If you wish to have a Catholic Wedding Ceremony, San Miniato with the stunning Chiesa del SS Crocifisso, an unusual Chapel with magnificent marbles and big stairs is highly recommend. It is the perfect setting for incredible photographs!
Best Time of Year to Get Married
Spring and Summer are the most popular months to have a destination wedding in Tuscany and in the last few years, August is popular too (some years ago most of the suppliers were closed and it was difficult to organise a wedding but now it’s not a problem!).
Tuscany is the only region in Italy where it is possible to organise beautiful weddings and events also during the Winter.
There are beautiful castles with frescoes and the elegant rooms of villas create a magical experience during the Winter months… also the Autumn is quite mild so a wedding in October is lovely!
The different seasons allow you to offer a different menu, during April/May you can find fresh strawberries perfect for your wedding cake or delicious asparagus and artichokes for risotto or pasta. During the autumn we suggest a special menu with mushrooms and truffles.
And if you would like some wonderful food experiences, you can offer your guests wine tasting/wine tour or cooking lessons. You will make them very happy!
