Charlotte & Oliver
When London couple Charlotte and Oliver decided to break from tradition and have a Wedding Abroad, they could never have imagined what 2020 had instore. With the majority of planning for their elegant Summer castle Wedding in Austria finalised, Covid-19 took hold in Europe. With the uncertainty of travel restrictions, quarantine measures and numbers at weddings capped, Charlotte and Oliver felt they had no option but to cancel.
However with Austria easing Covid-19 restrictions during the Summer, there was a glimmer of hope. Working in close consultation with their wedding planner Stressfree Weddings by SandraM, Charlotte and Oliver decided to reschedule their wedding for early September, but with a reduced guest list of 50 rather than the 86 they had originally planned for. Their gamble paid off!
The couple were blessed with an Indian Summer, perfect for their outdoor wedding ceremony with breathtaking views over the surrounding mountains. Below, their wedding planner Sandra Maureder has kindly shared Charlotte and Oliver’s Covid-19 wedding journey, together with their gorgeous wedding photos by Katrin Kerschbaumer Photography.

Wedding Venue…
Charlote and Oliver’s wedding was held at Schloss Mittersill, a luxurious hideaway located between Kitzbühel and Zell am See. Extensively renovated in 2009, and run as a 4 star hotel since 2012, the castle combines history with modern charm. Dating back to 1150, it is set on a hillside, accessed by a winding road through the woods in the heart of Hohe Tauern National Park overlooking the famous Kitzbüheler Alps. The fairytale castle has first class cuisine, spectacular panoramic views and offers a range of reception options, catering for weddings and events from 10 to 130+ people.
Covid-19 and the Impact on their Wedding Plans…
Due to travel restrictions, quarantine and the late notice of the couple’s new wedding date, only 27 guests were able to attend their castle wedding in Austria. Although it was challenging to work with a big venue and a reduced guest list, Schloss Mittersill’s versatility was key in ensuring that the wedding was within the Covid-19 guidelines.
We decided to use the garden for the ceremony, and the location for the Wedding Breakfast was moved to the biggest room, a bright and airy space to be sure that people were able to socially distance. Everything else worked surprisingly well and the venue was extremely flexible and helpful. Thankfully, the changes did not detract from Charlette and Oliver’s day and their wedding turned out beautifully.
Wedding Vision, Inspiration & Colour Scheme…
The inspiration for their colour scheme was taken from Charlotte’s dreamy hair, an English rose by the book, she looked stunning. The warmth of gold, orange, terracotta, yellow and red worked well. We combined Austrian services and English products to establish an international vibe.
Standout Moments & Unique Ideas…
Charlotte and Oliver set their hearts on one small detail at the end of the night: they wanted to enjoy a piece of their gorgeous wedding cake in the vaults of the castle lit by candlelight. Just the two of them. What an exquisite end to a day remembered forever!
